Vijay’s mother, Shobha is a talented singer. Recently, she had undergone further training in Carnatic vocal music. She was also spotted at some of the concerts during the last December music season. All this made people predict that she would soon be releasing an album of her own again. Their prediction has been proved right, as she has recorded an album of Tamil devotional songs for AVM audios.

Titled Aanai muganum, Aarumuganum, the songs praise the two great gods of Tamil culture – Vinayakar and his younger brother, Murugan. Team behindwoods was the first as always to carry gallery pictures of the event held at Adyar Park Hotel in Chennai within hours of the event.

Doyen of Tamil film music, Mellisai mannar, M.S. Viswanathan, Iyakkunar Sigaram K. Balachander, Veena Maestro E. Gayathri, besides new-mom Simran, Vijay and his wife Sangeetha attended the function. Gayathri, Simran and Shoba lit the traditional lamp at the hall which was decorated tastefully.

Simran looked quite simple in a maroon salwar kameez. Shobha and Gayathri wore rustling silk saris while Vijay and his wife wore pure white ensemble clothes.

Vijay released the CD and MS Viswanathan received the first copy.

Vijay takes it easy

After Aathi, Vijay is yet to commence shooting for his next. In his career spanning nearly a decade, it is a rare occasion when the actor has kept himself away from shooting for over a couple of months. He was tipped to commence Puli for S J Suryah, but it was reportedly shelved.

Meanwhile it was said that his next movie would be Murasu to be directed by debutant Muthuvadugu. Rumors have it that even this movie is a non-starter likely.

Asked why such a big gap, Vijay says, ‘it is self-imposed. I wanted to take a break and spend some time with my family. I needed time to spend with my wife, my son Sanjay. I am spending my time purposefully.’I thank God for my films had so far witnessed good run and helped the producers, distributors and the exhibitors make some money.’ Vijay said and added, ‘I would continue to play the mass hero in my forthcoming films. It is something spontaneous and natural.’

Vijay in tamil Bangaram?

Updated: 03-20-2006

At the audio release of the AM Ratnam-Dharani film Bangaram, tamil star Vijay's presence lent credence to rumours that the actor would be acting in the tamil version of Pawan Kalyan starrer Bangaram.

All the films produced by AM Ratnam with Vijay as the hero in tamil were great hits.So the producer is remaking all the hit telugu films into tamil too. So one thought it was obvious that if Bangaram becomes a hit, Vijay would be roped in to play in the tamil version.

If you remember the Dharani directed Gilli which was a remake of the telugu Okkadu was a huge hit in Vijay's career. So while such talk goes on, none can stop the rumours.

Vijay’s new film – gigantic set being made

17.03.2006

"I am not an elephant, but only a horse. So even if I slip, I can get up fast." Vijay has not expressed such a challenge in Rajini style. But he is taking steps for his next film with great conviction.

The film `Murasu' is being launched by director Muthu Vadugu, the brother of director Perarasu. Perarasu is writing the story, screen play, dialogues and songs and he is also directing this film.

People say that this film is a balanced blend of sentiment and commercialism. A giant set is being prepared near Prasad Lab at the same place where `Poovellam un Vasam' was shot. A large township is being built here. More than 1000 artisans were engaged to build it in one month time.

The very façade is so impressive, that news about `Murasu' spread in all directions. In the race between Trisha and Asin to act in this film, Asin was the one who won it. Asin is acting as a pair to Vijay.

It is learnt that the exhibitors who created problem for the film `Aathi' will not be given the film `Murasu'. It is also learnt that Vijay himself has sent this strict instruction.

Vijay at Hyderabad – Telugu fans happy

To Vijay’s Telugu fans, it was a surprising and happy event—Vijay attending the audio-cassette release function of Dharani’s Bangaram, the Power-star Pawan Kalyan starrer. Even Pawan Kalyan’s fans cheered as Vijay walked up to the stage.

The function was held yesterday at Sunetra School for the blind at Hyderabad. Present on the occasion were hero Pawan Kalyan, producer A M Rathnam, Music Director Vidyhasagar, Director Dharani and Trisha. Trisha was looking sleek in her pink tops and knee length skirt.

Vijay was looking stunning though a bit indrawn in his dark grey pants and light blue shirt. Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Kalyan said that he was an ardent and keen watcher of Vijay’s flicks. Has Vijay changed a lot these days? Of course, he has.

He is no longer the guy who kept aloof, away from cinema functions or fan club meetings. The guy has opened up and this means a lot. Don’t write off this guy just because he has given one mediocre movie, Aathi. One can’t just predict the pulse of the moviegoer. As far as fan base is concerned, Vijay has the biggest, perhaps, next to the Superstar’s. They swear by his name and movies.

Vijay delighted everyone at the function by speaking in Telugu: “I’m a great fan of Pawan Kalyan. I like his style of comedy and also his stunts. I don’t miss his movies. I hope that Bangaram will be a big hit.” There was a huge applause as he said this. Vijay too is as much a familiar face in Andhra as Surya or Vikram are.

And certainly this visit to Andhra must have increased his popularity rate down there. Though not working in any movie right now, the guy is gearing up for a great hit. He knows that he has the stuff to deliver. Only that he is looking for a great combination of an original story and a hit director.

Guys, prepare yourselves for another mega-hit from this talented hero.

A hero’s welcome for “Ilaya Thalapathi”

Vijay thanks his fans for their support to his films

Pondicherry: It was a lightning visit but still his frenzied fans waved and shouted with great joy at the mere sight of their hero. The star of “Sivakasi”, “Thirupachi” and “Aadhi” and the hero of 465 fan clubs in Pondicherry, “Ilaya Thalapathi” Vijay spoke but a few words on Sunday evening at the Anna Thidal and that gave a tough time for policemen managing the crowd at the venue. The huge crowd tried to jump over chairs and barricades to have a closer glimpse of their super star.

Clad in an orange striped top and black trousers, Vijay clambered up the stairs to the dais with a spring in his walk and smiled and waved to the fans. Vijay was here to distribute assistance, including a boat, a tricycle and also to celebrate the birthday of orphaned children. But he couldn’t do so due to “certain reasons”.

In his short speech, Vijay thanked his fans for their support to his films. Before coming to Pondicherry, Vijay opened a bus shelter in Padhirikuppam in Cuddalore, which was installed on behalf of a Vijay Rasigar Mandram there. “We couldn’t distribute the aids because the elections are just round the corner and it would seem inappropriate at this time. But we will be giving them away after the elections”, said Bussy Anand, president of the Pondicherry State Vijay Fan Clubs Association.

“Even during the tsunami the fan clubs extended all the help they could. Vijay was here in Pondicherry and he gave away 23 boats and nets. We had also constructed some temporary shelters for those affected in the tsunami”, he added.

It’s all just to have a glimpse of Vijay

Actor Vijay’s fans have built a bus shelter costing about one lakh rupees at Pathirikuppam near Cuddalore. Vijay came yesterday evening to inaugurate it. Ever since news leaked that Vijay would be coming there, crowds gathered to have a glimpse of the actor.

Both Ilaya Thalapathi fans and public were eagerly waiting to see him. The situation became unmanageable when Vijay arrived at the spot. After seeing Vijay’s car, the mob surrounded it with chorus of Ilaya Thalapathi Vaazga, Ezhai Thozhan Vijay Vaazgha.

Vijay couldn’t get out of his car since the crowd almost surrounded him and he had to wait in the car itself for more than 10 minutes. Finally, police came and tried to disperse the crowd. But it turned futile. Police had no option but to lathi charge the crowd.

Vijay got out of the car. People who were waiting for long were deeply disappointed since Ilaya Thalapathy spoke only a few words thanking the fan club and public for doing such good work for the benefit of the public.

Vijay opened the bus shelter and just whizzed away.
